Spring 2021 FAA and TSA Requirements for Flight Students

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, several changes have been made to the FAA enrollment process at the airport to ensure adequate social distancing at Flight Operations. Below is a breakdown of changes affecting each flight course. Note that these changes are for FAA enrollment in your flight lab, and do not reflect any changes to enrolling in an academic course.

For students taking AVIT 102, please check the New Students page for information on purchasing supplies. Bookstore orders for AVIT 102 students will be picked up by appointment only from Saturday, January 9th through Wednesday, January 13th. For students in all other flight courses, supplies may be purchased at the bookstore during the hours below:

Bookstore Hours

Monday-Friday: 9:00am - 4:00pm

Pubs App renewals can be done via email (pubs@aero.und.edu).

All AVIT 101, 102, or 112 information can be found at Flight Training Info for New Students. Please utilize the checklist found on this page to ensure you have completed the necessary steps prior to meeting with your flight instructor.

Students must complete the FAA enrollment process prior to beginning your AVIT 221 flight training. You must wait to begin this process until you have completed your AVIT 102 flight training. This can now be completed electronically. Please complete the form prior to meeting with your flight instructor. You will need to upload scans or photographs of your pilot certificate, medical certificate, and photo ID when completing this form. You will receive an enrollment certificate via email after Records approves your enrollment. This process may be completed prior to the start of the semester, but you may not begin training with your instructor until January 11, 2021. If you experience difficulties with the online enrollment form, email flight-records@aero.und.edu for assistance.

You must also verify your citizenship with the Records Center and receive approval to train from the TSA. After submitting your electronic enrollment form, you can visit the Records Center in person at Flight Operations to complete the TSA approval process. You will need to bring documentation proving your US citizenship, and your logbook. Non-US citizens must complete TSA AFSP registration prior to making their appointment.

Both of the above steps must be completed before conducting briefing 1 with your flight instructor.

You do not need to complete an FAA enrollment or TSA approval for AVIT 222. You may begin training with your flight instructor on January 11, 2021.

You do not need to complete an FAA enrollment or TSA approval for AVIT 323. You may begin training with your flight instructor on January 11, 2021.

You must verify your citizenship with the Records Center and receive approval to train form the TSA. This process will be completed in-person at the Records Center. You will need to bring documentation proving your US citizenship, your logbook, and your Private Pilot Certificate. Non-US citizens must complete TSA AFSP registration prior to visiting the Records Center.

Students must complete the FAA enrollment process prior to beginning your AVIT 414 flight training. You must wait to begin this process until you have completed your AVIT 325 flight training.
